  • On 10th February, 2017, Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananth Kumar inaugurated and presided over the orientation programme for the district conveners of National Yuva Cooperative Society for launching of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) in the country.
  • The scheme of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras will be implemented by Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India.
  • The workshop was targeted to educate and channelize youth to synergize their efforts for taking ahead the mission to open 3000 PMBJKs by March 2017.
  • As a follow up activity to the MoU signed earlier between Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI) and NYCS for establishing 1000 PMBJKs in the country, the workshop served the purpose of laying the details of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
  • Representatives from 24 States and 106 districts from across the country attended the programme to further help spread the scheme in their respective zones and bring momentum in opening of PMBJKs.
  • PMBJKs, are inspired to be based on 3As – Authenticity, Availability and Affordability.
  • Background:
  • The branded (Generic) medicines are sold at significantly higher prices than their un-branded generic equivalents in the market. These medicines are identical in the therapeutic value. Given the widespread poverty across the country, making generic medicines available at reasonable price in the market would benefit poor.
  • With this objective, the Pharma Advisory Forum in its meeting held on 23rd April, 2008, decided to launch the Jan Aushadhi Campaign – starting with the sale of generic medicines through dedicated sales outlets called Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra in various districts of the country.

  • Marketing of generic drugs through the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya
  • Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK) Procurement of medicines from Central pharma PSUs and Private Sectors
    Monitoring proper running of PMBJK
