  • On December 15th, 2017, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed full restrictions on things made from plastic such as carry bags, plates and spoons in cities like Haridwar and Rishikesh situated on the bank of river Ganga.
  • The bench chaired by NGT Chairman Justice Swatantra Kumar also stopped the sale, manufacturing and storage of such things till Uttarkashi.
  • The NGT said in its order that those who will violate the order be fined Rs 5,000.
  • Along with this, action will also be taken against the wrongful officials.
  • The NGT passed the order after mentioning that despite its earlier order, plastic bags are being used in these areas, which is causing pollution in Ganga River.
