  • On October 19, 2018, Lotay Tshering was elected as the new Prime Minister of Bhutan. He is president of Bhutan’s political party Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT).
  • He will replace Tshering Tobgay. First Round of voting was held on 15-09-2018, and the Second Round on 18-10-2018.
  • It is significant that the third general election (Election of the National Assembly) was held in Bhutan on 15th September and 18th October 2018.
  • In this election, DNT (Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa) got 31.85 percent votes and Bhutan Peace and Prosperity Party got 30.92 percent votes.
  • While the ruling party People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was at the third spot with 27.44 percent of the vote.
  • In the 47-member National Assembly, 30 seats were bagged by the DNT party and 17 seats by Bhutan Peace and Prosperity Party.
