  • On January 13, 2020 Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has developed a special class diesel (HFHSD- IN 512) High Flash High Speed Diesel.
  • The quality of this diesel is at par with NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) grade.
  • The new diesel results in a reduced carbon footprint. It has lesser environmental impact due to low Sulphur content and would result in the better performance of engine.
  • It has been developed for the use in ships and vessels of Indian Army.
  • Vice Admiral Gurtej Singh Pabby, Indian Navy launched the HFHSD- IN 512 during an occasion in New Delhi.
  • The upgraded HFHSD- IN 512 blend, NATO specifications, is being supplied from Haldia and Pardip refinery, Kolkata, West Bengal.
  • The revised technical specification of new fuel arrived consisting of 22 test parameters including critical parameters cetane number, flash point, sulphur content, sediment content, oxidation stability and Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP).
  • The new fuel is expected to benefit other IOCL consumers like the Indian Coast Guard and other merchant marine in the coming years.
  • This new development will now allow India to fuel the vessels of friendly foreign countries where fuel conforming NATO grade is supplied.
