  • On 29th March 2017, The United Nations announced the appointment of David Beasley as the Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP).
  • The announcement was made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and José Graziano da Silva, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
  • He will replace Ertharin Cousin whose five-year term expires on 4 April.
  • World Food Programme delivers emergency food assistance around the world and works with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
  • Mr. Beasley, who is the Chair of the Center for Global Strategies, was Governor of the state of South Carolina. He was elected at the age of 21 to the South Carolina House of Representatives (1979-1992) and Governor of South Carolina (1995-1999), as one of the youngest in the United State’s history.
