  • Indian Railways launched an operation “Meri Saheli” in October 2020.
    Actually it is an initiative of RPF(Railway Protection Force).
  • This initiative focuses on the safety of women passengers.

Main points

  1. Identification of seat number of female passengers – RPF teams at the boarding stations will collect seat numbers of the women passengers.
  2. Interaction – Under this initiative, a team of young RPF women personnel will interact with women passengers(especially those travelling alone) at the originating station.
  3. Precaution & dial 182 – During the conversation, female passengers will be informed about the precautions to be taken during the journey. Also, they will be informed about the dial 182(security helpline number).
  4. Covering female passengers, feedback collection – During duty period, the onboard RPF escort will cover the marked coaches and berths. Also, the RPF team deployed at the destination will get feedback from women passengers. The feedback is then analysed and corrective action, if any, is taken.

Started as a pilot project

  • It was launched as a pilot project in South Eastern Railway in September 2020.
  • After receiving enthusiastic response from female passengers, it was extended to all zones and KRCL(Konkan Railway Corporation) w.e.f. 17.10.2020.
