  • On 12 March 2021, Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary, Department of Food & Public Distribution launched Mera Ration mobile app.
  • The app will benefit those ration card card holders who moved to new places for the livelihood.
  • So far, 32 states/UTs have been covered under the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) system.
  • The remaining 4 States /UT viz Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and West Bengal will be soon integrated under the system.
  • At present, the system covers nearly 69 Crore NFSA beneficiaries,about 86% NFSA population.

NFSA:

  • National Food Security Act(NFSA) was enacted by the Government of India in July 2013.
  • The NFSA Act gives legal entitlement to 67% of the population (75% in rural areas and 50% in urban areas) to receive highly subsidized foodgrains.
  • Under the Act, foodgrain is allocated @ 5 kg per person per month for priority households category and @ 35 kg per family per month for AAY(Antyodaya Anna Yojana) families at a highly subsidized prices of Rs. 1/-, Rs. 2/- and Rs. 3/- per kg for nutri-cereals, wheat and rice respectively.
