  • Government of India has decided to extend the nation-wide lockdown to fight COVID-19 till 3 May 2020.
  • This decision was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his nation address on April 14, 2020. It was extended after the suggestions was given by various states.
  • The pace of rising cases has made the situation to extend the lockdown to protect lives of the people of the country by following social distancing.
  • The hotspots identified for the virus will be under strict checks and screening till April 20, 2020. There will be some freedom of movement, that too under strict conditions after some success in virus control is noted.
  • The government has also announced for making all efforts to help farmers with the ongoing Rabi harvest and procurement.
  • All passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, etc shall continue to remain cancelled till 3rd May 2020.
  • Further booking of tickets has also been closed down.
  • The cargo and parcel trains carrying essential supplies will continue to function.
  • All the national and international flight also stand cancelled tum May 3, 2020 amid the lock down.
