India to generate 100 GW solar energy by 2022

  • India started the world largest renewable energy expansion program, which will have target of 175 GW by 2022; it has 100 GW solar power components. Currently installed capacity of solar power is around 20 GW.
  • India is a founder member of International Solar Alliance (ISA) consists of 121 member countries, these countries lie in the tropical region (between tropic of cancer and tropic of Capricorn). ISA has it’s headquarter located in Gurugram, India.
  • The idea of solar alliance was conceived by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in 2015 as a treaty based international intergovernmental organization.
