  • It is a surface-to-surface missile and has a range of more than 5,000km.
  • It is indigenously developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • The 17.50-meter long Agni-5 Missile weighs about 50 tonnes and is a three-stage, solid propellant missile.
  • It can carry about a 1,000-kg warhead.
  • It was fourth trial of Agni-V and first test of a long range missile after India joins Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR).
  • The previous successful missions were executed on April 19, 2012, September 15, 2013 and January 31, 2015.
  • The Agni 5 is the most advanced, with inbuilt new technologies for navigation and guidance, warhead and engine.
  • On 19 April 2012 withe the successful test of Agni-V , India joined the super exclusive club of countries with ICBMs (Intercontiental Ballistic Missiles Club) (missiles with a range of over 5,000-5,500km) alongside the US, Russia, China and France.
