About HAC
- HAC is a group of more than 70 countries encouraging the adoption of the global goal to protect 30×30. It was initiated at the “One Planet Summit” in Paris in January 2021.
- HAC members currently include a mix of countries in the global north and south; European, Latin American, Africa and Asia countries are among the members.
- India is the first of the BRICS bloc of major emerging economies (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) to join the HAC.
About global goal to protect 30×30
- It is basically a global biodiversity protection goal. Goal states that:-
- As per scientist in order to prevent mass extinctions and bolster resilience to climate change, at least 30 percent of our lands, rivers, lakes, and wetlands must be protected by 2030.
- At least 30 percent of our oceans must also be fully and highly protect by 2030 to help safeguard marine ecosystems and fisheries that provide food, jobs, and cultural sustenance to billions around the world.
