- On August 20th, 2017, the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the office and residential premises of National Investigation Agency (NIA) at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (UP).
- As of now, NIA has 5 Branch offices (Hyderabad, Guwahati, Kochi, Lucknow, and Mumbai) across the country.
- This is the first private (own, not rented) office and residential premises of the agency.
- The agency is established with a mandate to investigate offenses related to terrorist activities and other crimes having national and international importance.
- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was created in pursuance to the enactment of the NIA Act, 2008, on 31.12.2008 after 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and started functioning from the 19th January 2009.
- The jurisdiction of the NIA Lucknow Branch (sanctioned on March 6th, 2012) spreads over the States of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
