- The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced its Test and ODI Teams of the Year.
- Former Test stalwarts Rahul Dravid, Gary Kirsten and Kumar Sangakkara selected the sides based on players’ performances in the period from 14 September 2015 to 20 September 2016.
- England’s Alastair Cook has been named as captain of the ICC Test Team of the Year.
- Indian batsman Virat Kohli has been named as captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year.
- Other Indian players included in the ODI Team of the Year are: Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja.
- Ravichandran Ashwin is the only Indian player included in the Test team.
- ICC Women’s Team of the Year 2016 is captained by Stafanie Taylor of West Indies.
- The only Indian in the women’s team is Smriti Mandhana.
- It shuld be noted that the players and teams are selected on the basis of their performance between September 14, 2015 to 20th September 2016.
- During this period Ashwin played 48 Test matches and took 8 wickets.
- Ashwin become the second Indian to get above two awards in the same year after Rahul Dravid, 2004.
