On March 21, 2017, ‘Human Development Report-2016’ is released by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Stockholm (Sweden).
‘Human Development for Everyone’ is the title of Human Development Report-2016.
188 countries have been ranked for year 2016 HDR on the basis of their Human Development Index (HDI) position in 2015.
These 188 countries have been classified into the following four groups based on their Human Development Index (HDI) value-
0.800 or greater; contries with very high human HDI
0.700 -0.79; countries with high HDI
0.550 -0.69; countries with middle HDI
Less than 0.550; countries with low HDI
In the Human Development Index countries from rank 1 to 51 are placed in ‘Very High Human Development’ category, countries from rank 52 to 105 are placed in ‘High Human Development’ category countries from rank 107 to 147 are placed in ‘Middle Human Development’ category and countries from rank 148 to 188 are placed in ‘Low Human Development’ category.
Norway with HDI value -0.949, has got first rank in the index.
After Norway, Australia and Switzerland (HDI value -0.939) are jointly at second position, Germany (HDI value -0.92) at fourth and Denmark and Singapore (HDI value 0.925) are jointly at fifth position.
Central African Republic with HDI value 0.352 is at the last place (188th).
After this, Niger (HDI value .0353) gets 187th, Chad (HDI value -0.396) 186th, Burkina Faso (HDI price 0.402) 185th, Burundi (HDI value 0.404) to 184th and Guinea (HDI Price -0.414) Is ranked 183rd.
India is ranked 131 with HDI value of 0.624 and is classified as a ‘Medium Human Development’ Country.
It is notable that in the last year HDR 2015, India was at 130th place with 0.609 HDI value.
In neighboring countries of India, Sri Lanka (73rd with 0.766HDI value), China (73th with 0.738 HDI value), Maldives (105th position with 0.738 HDI value) is better than India.
Bhutan (132th with 0.607 HDI value), Bangladesh (139th with 0.579 HDI value), Nepal (144th with 0.558 HDI value) and Pakistan (147th position with 0.550 HDI value) is.
Amongst other major countries in the world USA is at 10th , United Kingdom is at 16th , Japan is at 17th, France is at 21st and Russia is at 49th .
