  • In order of promoting and glorifying the prosperity of Hindi language Hindi Diwas is celebrated on 14 September every year since 1953.
  • Hindi written in Devnagri script is adopted and enacted as the official language of the Republic of India on 14 September 1949.
  • In context of making Hindi as the official language of India it is as such mentioned in the article 343(1) of part 17th of Indian Constitution: The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script. The form of numerals to be used for the official purposes of the Union shall be the international form of Indian numerals.

Celebrations:

  • Hindi Diwas marks organization of essays, debate competitions, poetry, plays and exhibitions in schools, colleges and educational institutions.
  • Apart from this, Hindi fortnight from September 14 to the next 15 days is organized in government offices.

Provision of Awards:

  • To encourage the implementation of the Official Language the Department of Official language has introduced a award scheme named ‘Rajsabha Kirti Puraskar’ under various descriptions from the financial year 2015-16 annually.

  • Hindi is the fourth largest language in the world on grounds of diction.
  • According to the latest figures, currently 43.63 percent of the peoples in India speak Hindi.However in 2001, the figure was 41.3 percent.
  • According to the Census, there was increment of 10 crore speakers of Hindi between 2001 and 2011 making clear that Hindi is the fastest growing language in the country.
  • Nowadays, Hindi is widely promoted and practiced by leading multinational companies such as Google, Amazon, Snapdeal, etc.These companies are now emphasizing Hindi by launching of its services in Hindi and other regional languages.
  • Fiji has also adopted Hindi under the status of official language. It is also called Fijian Hindi or Fijian Hindustani. This is a composite form of Awadhi, Bhojpuri and other dialects.

World Hindi Day:

  • The World Hindi Day is observed annually on 10 January since its inception in 2006 for the promotion of the language at the global stage.
