  • Government on 19 May 2021 has announced an increase in subsidy for di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilisers from Rs 500 per bag (50-kg) to Rs 1,200 per bag.
  • Prices of Ammonia, Phosphorous etc have been increasing rapidly internationally because of which prices of fertilizers have been increasing at very fast rate in the country .Government was facing severe criticism in its inability to control the raising prices of fertilizers in the country.
  • The GoI was spending Rs 80,000 crores for chemical subsidies earlier. Now, with the increase in subsidy, the Government of India will spend an additional Rs 14,775 crores.
