  • On 21 July 2016 American business magazine Fortune has released the list of 2016 Fortune Global 500 list of the world’s biggest firms.
  • The overall list was topped by Walmart with revenue of 482,130 million US dollars, followed by State Grid at Second place and China National Petroleum at the third place.
  • Others in the global top 10 companies include Sinopec Group (4th, $294,344 million), Royal Dutch Shell (5th, $272,156 million), Exxon Mobil (6th, $246,204 million), Volkswagen (7th, $236,600 million), Toyota Motor (8th, $236,592 million), Apple (9th, $233,715 million) and BP (10th, $225,982 million).
  • The world’s 500 largest companies generated $27.6 trillion in revenues and $1.5 trillion in profits in 2015.
  • Seven Indian companies have made it to the latest Fortune 500 list of the world’s biggest corporations in terms of revenue.

  • State Bank of India (SBI) with revenues of US $ 41,681 million India’s largest bank in terms of customer base came fourth after Tata Motors to occupy the 232nd rank.
  • Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) with the revenue of US $ 29,082 million is ranked 358th and Hindustan Petroleum Corp with the revenue of US $ 28 689 million ranked 367th were placed as the fifth and sixth, respectively.
  • The surprise entry from India at the seventh position is Bengaluru-based Rajesh Exports at 423rd rank with revenue of US $ 25 224 million, that has replaced ONGC in the list.
