  • On February 6th, 2018, the Drought Monitoring Committee (DMC) was formed by the Uttar Pradesh Government.
  • A 9-member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of U.P. Relief Commissioner.
  • On the same day the first meeting of this committee was convened under the chairmanship of secretary and relief commissioner Sanjay Kumar at the office of Relief Commissioner, Bapu Bhawan.
  • In order to establish State Drought Monitoring Center at the state level, In the light of the provisions made in the Drought Management Manual of the Government of India in 2016, on the various scientific and technical issues related to drought management, formation of Drought Monitoring Committee have been done with the purpose of providing technical advice to the state government.
  • This committee will also recommend ‘How to declare drought’ or ‘Which area is drought-prone?’
  • A data base will be constructed by Drought Monitoring (DMC).
  • Through which various indices related to drought such as rainfall, land use, agricultural conditions, ground water, equal water level and socio-economic conditions like migration and data collection of sale of property in emergencies, etc. Collection of data of sale of property, etc. will be collected and analyzed.
  • Periodic Report will be prepared by the D.M.C. regarding drought conditions, rainfall, agricultural transactions, crop circles, fodder, reservoir level and drinking water.
  • Tele-metric Rain-gauge and weather network will be set up in the state with the help of which improvement can take place in the databases weather and precipitation.
  • Through the D.M.C. with the help of the settlement with National Remote Sensing Center (Hyderabad), the activities of monitoring of drought and assessment of crops from Space Application Center (Ahmedabad) etc. will be done.
  • the report will be submitted by the DMC In relation to the announcement of drought to the state government, based on drought damage assessment and management of water and soil, etc
