- On 24th March, 2017, Dr. Randeep Guleria was appointed as the director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
- The post was vacant following retirement of former director Dr. M C Mishra in January.
- Dr Guleria joined AIIMS as an assistant professor in 1992 and has been the HoD of the department of pulmonary medicine and sleep disorders, since April, 2011.
- “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Randeep Guleria at AIIMS, New Delhi to the post of Director.
- He has been appointed for five years from the date of assumption of charge or till attaining the age of 65 until further orders.
- Dr Guleria has worked as a personal physician to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
- It is notable that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, was established in 1956 and operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
