  • In a bid to counter China’s growing influence a landmark defence pact known as the Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) has been signed between the two countries.
  • This agreement has been signed by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his Australian counterpart, Scott Morrison.
  • China is continuously flexing muscles in the South China Sea and over the Pacific island nations nowadays.
  • The Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) comes weeks after foreign ministers of the Quad alliance, which includes the US and India, met in Tokyo.
