  • Country’s highest film honour, Dadasaheb Phalke award for the year 2018 will be presented to Amitabh Bachchan.
  • The announcement was made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Shri Prakash Javdekar.
  • Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in 1969 in the film Saat Hindustani which is about seven Indians attempting to liberate Goa from Portuguese colonial rule.
  • The same year he also did the voice over for Mrinal Sen’s Bhuvan Shome, one of the earliest films of the Indian parallel cinema.
  • Mr. Bachchan has been honoured with four National Film Awards, for the films Agneepath, Black, Paa, and Piku.

  • Mr. Bachchan has been honoured with Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award:

  • Dada Saheb Phalke award is India’s highest film honour conferred for “Outstanding contribution for the growth and development of Indian cinema”.
  • The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), a shawl and a cash prize of Rs. 10 lacs.
  • It is presented every year at the National Film Awards ceremony.
  • This award was introduced by government in the year 1969. The first recipient of the award was Devika Rani.
