- According to PIB press release posted on 19 June 2018 Defence Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated a workshop on Cyber Security Framework for Department of Defence which was organized by Department of Defence Production (DDP).
- Defence Minister stressed her concern over vulnerability of defence sector being more prone to cyber attack.
- DDP has formulated Cyber Security Framework and also establishing Cyber Security Cells at various levels to handle cyber security related issues.
- This Framework provides a common mechanism to all organization to describe their current level of cyber security status and let them identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement and continuously assess progress towards the target area, this framework is also in line with national policies and guidelines for cyber security.
- A strong Cyber Security Framework is need of hour, as all defence PSUs and ordnance factories are increasingly relying on information technology so any compromise may have far reaching consequences, and can deteriorate the effectiveness of our defence sector and national security.
