  • Theme of the event is, E9 initiative: Scaling up digital learning to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4.
  • It is a first of a three-phased process to co-create an initiative on digital learning and skills, targeting marginalised children and youth, especially girls.
  • Initiative aims to accelerate achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 agenda by driving rapid change in education systems in three of the 2020 Global Education Meeting priorities, support to teachers, investment in skills and narrowing of the digital divide.

E9 Countries

  • The E9 is a forum of nine countries, which was formed to achieve the goals of UNESCO’s Education For All (EFA) initiative. The “E” stands for education and the “9” represents the following nine countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Pakistan.
  • E-9 Initiative was launched in 1993 at the EFA Summit in New Delhi, India.

UNESCO’s Education For All (EFA) initiative

  • It is a global movement led by UNESCO. It aims to meet the learning needs of youth, children and adults. The Education for All initiative was adopted by the Darkar Framework in April 2000.
