- On 21 February 2022; Government of India announced about its plan for development of brand new Covid Vaccine.
- The plan will be executed through the pharmaceutical firm Panacea Biotec in partnership with Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI).
- They will develop vaccine candidates to produce broad protection against SARS-COV-2 variants also as other beta corona viruses.
- CEPI is partnering with a consortium comprising of Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI).
- THSTI is an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology and Panacea Biotec.
- CEPI will provide funding of up to USD 12 million for supporting the development of multi-epitope, advanced manufacturing processes, and nanoparticle-based vaccine candidates.
