  • On 22nd February, 2017, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved proposal for generation component of Arun-3.
  • ‘Arun-III’ is a 900 MW Hydro Electric Project, in Nepal.
  • The project is located on Arun River in Sankhuwasabha District of Eastern Nepal.
  • The estimated cost for this project is Rs. 5723.72 crore.
  • Completion period of the project shall be 60 months from the date of financial closure which is planned for September 2017.
  • The project is implemented by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Limited which is a Central Public Sector Enterprises of Government of India.
  • SJVN Limited ( a Mini Ratna: Category-I and Schedule –‘A’ CPSE company under Ministry of Power, Govt. of India) is a joint venture of the Government of India ( with 64.46% shares) ) and the Government of Himachal Pradesh (with 25.51% shares).
  • SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd (SAPDC) was incorporated & registered on 25th April, 2013 as a private limited company under the Nepalese Companies Act.
  • The power from the project shall be exported from Dhalkebar in Nepal to Muzaffarpur in India.
