Minister of Railways Flags off Country’s first Antyodaya Express running between Ernakulam – Howrah

Question- On February 27, 2017, Railway Minister Suresh Chargechak Prabhu flagged off the country’s first Antyodaya Express train with video conferencing from Rail Bhawan. From where will this train run?

  • On February 27, 2017; Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off the first Antyodaya Express train and the third Hamsafar train with video conferencing from Rail Bhawan.
  • These two trains were announced in the Rail Budget 2016-17.
  • Antyodaya Express (Weekly) will run between Ernakulam and Howrah.
  • The new Hamsafar Express train (weekly) will run between Sri Ganganagar and Tiruchirappalli.
  • This train will travel from North to South India.
  • Hamasafar is a fully air-conditioned AC train.
  • It has facilities such as GPS based passenger information system, passenger announcement system, fire and smoke information system, CCTV, comfortable seats, mobile and laptop charging point, and display in braille script etc.
  • Antyodaya Express is a completely unreserved superfast train.
  • In this train there are modern amenities like drinking water machine, Mobile Charging Point, Modular Toilets, LED Light, comfortable seats and racks for luggage.
  • According to the Railway Minister, by the new commercial parcel policy booking for the premises can be done not only for the Indian post but for sending parcel through private sector.
  • After successful testing of the new commercial parcel policy, it was implemented in the whole country on 27th February, 2017.
  • Prior to implementing the entire scheme, the scheme was conducted between two trains between Howrah and Guwahati between Howrah-Guwahati-Dibrugarh Express (15959) and Hyderabad and Nizamuddin in Hyderabad-Nizamuddin Deccan Express (12721).
  • According to the Railway Minister, Tejas and Uday Express trains will be launched soon.
