- On 15 October 2016 India and Russia signed a multi-billion dollar deal for S-400 ‘Triumf’ long-range air defence missile systems and Kamov helicopters and to replace the existing aging fleets and build new frigates.
- The three projects are collectively worth an estimated $10.5 billion (over Rs 72,000 crore).
- Ka-226T helicopters — Kamov 226T choppers will replace the aging Cheetah and Chetak choppers.
- Kamov is a light multipurpose helicopter designed for work in difficult conditions like high mountains, hot climate and marine areas.
- It allows for reconnaissance, targeting and monitoring of transportation.
