  • New 840 Higher Educational Institutes enrolled in Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) as a part of celebrations to mark 150th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Under “Unnat Bharat Abhiyan” scheme Phase I, 688 Institutes were selected and they were involved in various activities aimed to enrich rural India.




  • This includes field visits, house to house survey, identifying the felt needs of the rural masses, developing technology or process to improve their lives.
  • Now, in the next phase, on a challenge mode, 840 institutions have been selected and will be part of UBA 2.0. Out of these 840 institutes, 521 are Technical Institutions and 319 are Non-Technical Institutions.




  • Unnat Bharat Abhiyan aims to link the Higher Education Institutions with at least (5) villages, so that these institutions can contribute to the economic and social betterment of these village communities using their knowledge base.
  • Objectives of the scheme are (i) To engage the faculty and students of Higher Educational Institutions in understanding rural realities; (ii) Identify and select existing innovative technologies, enable customization of technologies, or devise implementation methods for innovative solutions, as required by people; and (iii) To allow Higher Educational Institutions to contribute to devising systems for smooth implementation of various Government Programs




  • The time frame for UBA 2.0 implementation is: Year 2017-18 – 750 Institutes; Year 2018-2019 – 3000 Institutes; Year 2019-20 – 4500 Institutes.
