  • The Union Minister of Culture Prahlad Singh Patelannounced that Six sites have been added to India’s tentative list of UNESCO world heritage sites.
  • The six sites are namely Satpura Tiger Reserve, Iconic riverfront of the historic city of Varanasi, Megalithic site of Hire Benkal, Maratha Military Architecture in Maharashtra, Bhedaghat-Lametaghat in Narmada Valley- Jabalpur, and temples of Kanchipuram.
  • With the addition of these six sites, the UNESCO has 48 proposals in tentative list of India.
  • These proposals will remain in the tentative list for a year after which the government will decide which one of them to push for in their final dossier to UNESCO.
