The 2019 South Asian Games, officially the XIII South Asian Games,held from 1-10 December 2019 in Nepal. It was held in three cities namely, Pokhara, Kathmandu, and Janakpur.
President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari declared opening of games in a glittering ceremony at Dasaratha Rangshala Stadium in Kathmandu.
The 10 Days long Games witnessed the participation of seven South Asian Countries India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Bhutan.
2,715 athletes participated in 28 sports. Cricket returned to the games after a gap of eight years.
A pair of blackbucks(Krishnashar) was the official mascot for the 2019 South Asian Games.
Blackbucks are the only extant member of the genus Antelope and mostly found in the southern region of Nepal and is an endangered species with in Nepal.
India finished on top with 311 medals comprising 173 gold, 93 silver and 45 bronze.
Host country Nepal recorded their best ever performance by achieving the second highest number of gold medals after India(51 gold, 60 silver and 95 bronze).

The South Asian Games (SAF Games, SAG, or SA games, and formerly known as South Asian Federation Games) is a biennial multi-sport event held among the athletes from South Asia.
The 8 members of SAG are India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC), formed in 1983 is the governing body of these games.
The first South Asian Games were hosted by Kathmandu, Nepal in 1984.
From 1984 to 1987 they were held every year except 1986, as it was a year of Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
