- On September 28th, 2017, the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 13th Formation Day of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
- The theme of this year’s formation day is ‘School Safety’.
- National Disaster Management Authority was constituted in the year 2005 under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
- Prime Minister is the Ex-officio President of this Authority.
- Its work is to co-ordinate in the work done on the arrival of natural disasters or man-made disasters and to build capacity to deal with them.
- The main feature of this event is to include the safety of children under disaster management.
- In the past year, India had hosted the first Asian Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi.
- It is notable that India is hosting first ‘BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise- 2017’ from 10th-13th October this year.
