- World Fisheries Day is celebrated every year on November 21 2019. The theme of this year is Social responsibility in the fisheries value chain.
- The fishing communities held rallies, workshops, public meetings, cultural programs and exhibition to highlight the importance of maintaining the world’s fisheries.
- Department of Fisheries organized a function to celebrate the World Fisheries Day in New Delhi. Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Giriraj Singh mentioned that there is a tremendous amount of opportunities in the fisheries sector.
- The annual production of fisheries has reached up to 13 million metric tonnes and the Ministry is working on achieving target of 20 million metric tonne in the next five years.
