  • It is significant that on November 30th, 2016, the Supreme Court in its order made it mandatory to play the national anthem before the-film’s performance in theaters.
  • Playing the National Anthem in cinemas is voluntary; this order is directed by the three-member bench of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice AM. Khanvilkar and Justice Dhananjay Y Chandrachud.
  • According to a three-member bench, the 12-member inter-ministerial committee formed by the Center will take a final decision regarding the National Anthem in cinemas.
  • This committee will consider all aspects related to playing the National Anthem in detail.
  • Simultaneously, the petitioners were also allowed to keep their report before the committee.
  • It is known that a 12-member committee has been constituted to give suggestions regarding amendment in the curtailment of the National Honor Act, 1971 by the Central Government.
  • This committee has to present its report for six months from its formation (December 5, 2017).
