  • On 21 November 2016 India successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile.
  • The test was conducted by the India Army from a test range at Chandipur in Odisha.
  • During the test, two Prithvi-II missiles in salvo mode were successfully test-fired in quick succession from mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).
  • Prithvi-II is a surface-to-surface missiles which have a strike range of 350 km and are capable of carrying 500 kg to 1,000 kg of warheads.
  • It was inducted into Indian armed forces in 2003 by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC).
  • In a similar trial, India test fired Prithvi II as a part of a users trial on 18 May 2016.
