  • This year’s Report provides an overview of the competitiveness performance of 140 economies grouped into 12 indicators.
  • The 12 indicators are: Institutions, Infrastructure, Macroeconomic environment, Innovation, Health & primary education, Business sophistication, Higher education & training, market size, Goods market efficiency, Technological readiness, Financial market development, Labor market efficiency.
  • Globally, Switzerland has retained its top position (score-5.76) as the world’s most competitive economy for seventh year in a row.
  • Second position earned by Singapore (score-5.68), USA (score-5.61), Germany (score-5.53) and Netherlands (score-5.50) are at third, fourth and fifth position respectively.
  • The lowest position in index of 140 countries/economies are Guiana (place: 140, score-2.84), Chad (pace-139, score-2.96), Mauritania (place: 138, score-3.03) and Burundi (place: 136, score-3.11).
  • India is on the 55th position in the index, as compared to 71st last year.
  • Neighborhood countries of India in this index are Sri Lanka 68th (score-4.21), Nepal 100th (score-3.85), Bhutan 105th (score-3.80) and Pakistan 126th (score-3.45).
  • Among other developed countries, Japan 6th (score: 47), Hong Kong 7th (score: 5.46), England 10th (score: 5.53) and France 22th (score: 5.13).
  • Among other emerging major economies, China positioned 28th (score: 89), Russia 45th (score: 4.44), South Africa 49th (Score: 4.39) and Brazil 75th (score: 4.08).
