  • On 30 June 2016 India test fired a Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM), Barak-8 from  the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur , defence base off Odisha coast.
  • It is developed jointly by Indian Defence Research Development Laboratory (DRDL), a laboratory of DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
  • It is capable of  fired from air, water and land, is capable of destroying submarines, missiles and warships.
  • Apart from the missile, the system includes a multi-functional surveillance and threat alert radar for detection, tracking and guidance of the missile.
  • The test-firing of the missile was jointly carried out by Indian defence personnel, DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries.
  • Its production in India is the result of the collaboration of Industries like BEL, L&T and Tata group.
  • The missile was again tested on 1 July 2016 at Chandipur, Balasore which was also successful.
