  • President visited Jordan between 10 October and 12 October 2015 on the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah-II Ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
  • It is to be noted that it is the first visit of a President of India to Jordan for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in past 65 years.
  • Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi visited Jordon in year 1988.
  • On behalf of Jordon King Abdullah and Queen Rania visited India in 2006
  • The President’s delegation includes Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot, academic community , six members of Parliament, including KP Thomas of Congress, Meenakshi Lekhi of BJP and Anupam Hazra of Trinamool Congress and media representatives.
  • On October 11, 2015 university of Jordon awarded President Pranab Mukherjee with an honorary doctorate in Political Science for his service to Indian people and Humanity.
  • India and Jordan have signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in various fields. These MoUs were signed in presence of Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and Indian President Pranab Mukherjee in Amman.( The capital of Jordan)

The agreements signed are:

  • MoU on executive program for cultural exchange between the Jordanian and Indian governments.
  • MoU on Communication and Information Technology to cooperate in the field of ICT and electronics fields.
  • MoU between Jordan News Agency Petra and the Press Trust of India (PTI).
  • MoU on Maritime Transport Sector.
  • MoU between Jordan Institute of Diplomacy and Indian Foreign Service Institute (IFSI).
  • MoU between Indian Metrological Department (IMD) and Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization to cooperate in assessment techniques.
  • President Pranab Mukherjee also inaugurated a street named after Mahatma Gandhi in Amman and planted an Olive tree in peace park.
  • Jordan has fully assured support to India’s candidature in the expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Both countries also assured to enhance their cooperation in counter-terrorism and defense
  • President Mukherjee also extended an invitation to the King of Jordan to visit India along with Queen, which has been accepted.
