  • On December 27th, 2017Parliament passed the Indian Forest (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
  • This bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 18, 2017 by Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Harshvardhan.
  • The purpose of this Bill is to amend the Indian Forest Act, 1927.
  • This Act consolidates legislation related to transcection of forest products from one place to another and duty collected on them.
  • In this Act, palm, bamboo, Duth, Shrub and cane incorporated in the definition of tree.
  • Since the bamboo is included in definition of tree under in the act, therefore it requires getting permission to move it from one state to another.
  • After amendment in this Act, there will be no need to seek permission for cutting and transporting bamboo growing in non-forest areas and for its economic use.
  • It is known that according to the classification of botany, bamboo comes in the category of grass.
