- On September 24th, 2017, Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the ‘My Home-My Neighborhood’ (Ghar Bi Saaf-Pados Bhi Saaf) campaign) at New Delhi.
- The purpose of this campaign is to manage the waste in cities in a proper manner.
- ‘My Home-My Neighborhood’ (Ghar Bi Saaf-Pados Bhi Saaf) campaign has six components:
- Segregation of waste at source
- Compost making from wet waste within the premises/neighborhood/area
- Recycling of dry waste
- Freeing the neighborhood from open defecation and open urination
- Motivating the residents of neighborhood against throwing garbage in open spaces; and
- Adopting a nearby park or open place for collection and waste segregation.
- This neighborhood action plan leads to substantial reduction in the quantum of solid waste sent to landfill besides enabling better performance of Waste-to –Compost and Waste-to-Energy plants.
- Apart from this, there will be facility to make fertilizer and energy from waste.
- Neighborhood is the residential society, colony, clan, market etc.
- The wholehearted Action Plan will be launched from October 2, 2017 in all the cities and cities of the country.
- He also inaugurating modern litter picker machines imported by South Delhi Municipal Corporation during ‘Swacchata Hi Sewa’ campaign.
