  • Every year, September 14 is celebrated as Hindi Diwas.
  • On this day in 1949, Hindi written in Devanagari script was adopted as the official language of India by the Constituent Assembly of India.
  • Part XVII of the Constitution of India designates Hindi as the official language of the Union.  The article 343, point 1, specifically mentions that, “The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devnagari script. The form of numerals to be used for the official purposes of the Union shall be the international form of Indian numerals.”
