- PM Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first fertilizer plant based on coal gasification technique in Talcher, Angul (Odisha).
- 36 months is the proposed time for completion of this project worth rupees 13,000 crores.
- This plant will produce 1.27 million ton Neem coated urea-a crop nutrient- and would use coal- gasification technology to produce feedstock for the plant. Neem coated urea is manufactured since 2008 on the orders of the ministry of chemical and fertilizers.
- India’s urea production capacity is expected to go up from the current 25 million tonnes to 34 million tonnes by 2021-22, according to government estimates.
- This project would generate employment for over 4500 people. This plant will be run by a new company Talcher Fertilizers Limited which constituted with 4 state-run companies- GAIL, Coal India Ltd., Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers and FCIL– as partners.
