- On the 4th of February 2022, the ‘Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship 2022’ was announced by the office of the principal scientific adviser to the government of India under its ‘Waste to Wealth’ mission.
- The objective of this fellowship is to empower young innovators who are engaged in community work of waste management, waste awareness campaigns, waste surveys etcetera, in the role of ‘Swachhta Saarthis’ and to implement actions to reduce waste for a greener planet.
- It is important to mention here that the ‘Waste to Wealth’ mission is also one of the nine national missions of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC).
- The fellowship was established in 2021 to honour students, community workers/self-help organisations, and municipal/sanitary professionals who are involved in work to scientifically and sustainably address the massive problem of waste management.
