  • Second World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) held at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh from 19-22 November 2015.
  • The 4-day conference was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and was attended by Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Kiran Rijiju.
  • This is so far the largest conference held by non-governmental organization / institution on disaster management. It was attended by over 1000 delegates from 100 countries.
  • The Congress is being jointly organized by the Disaster Management, Infrastructure and Control Society (DMICS) and Andhra Pradesh government and various local, national, regional and international organizations.
  • It had explore various dimensions of natural and manmade hazards, vulnerabilities and exposures, their impacts across sectors and various efforts and initiatives for building resilience at all levels.
  • The main aim of the event was to network national and international resources and expertise and brings them to a common platform for effective and efficient disaster management.
  • It comprises technical sessions, paper presentations, exhibitions and cultural events.
  • The first kind of such congress was held in Hyderabad in 2008.
