  • On 27 August 2015 Forbes Asia magazine released the list of the new group of philanthropist in its latest 9th edition.
  • The list has featured top 40 philanthropists from 13 Asia-Pacific region countries for their individual noteworthy contributions to health and education sectors including 7 Indians.
  • Important to know that out of 7 Indians, 4 persons are co-founders of Infosys Ltd.
  • Infosys is the second largest software firm in India.
  • Sunny Varkey who has pledge to donate half his fortune worth US 2.25 billion dollars as charity as a follow-up to the Giving Pledge Initiative, led by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
  • Varkey is the founder of GEMS Education which is based in Dubai. It has a chain of 70 private schools in 14 countries.
  • Infosys co-founders Nandan Nilekani, Senapathy Gopalakrishnan and SD Shibulal have been featured in the list for their individual contributions to the health and education sectors.
  • Rohan Murthy, son of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy also included as a philanthropist in the list.
  • He had donated US 5.2 million dollars to Harvard University Press for promoting ancient Indian literary classics.
  • London-based India-born brother entrepreneurs Suresh Ramakrishnan and Mahesh Ramakrishnan also have featured in the list.
  • The brothers donated USD 3 million for training of more than 4,000 people in tailoring across India. Beneficiaries include the 2004 tsunami victims and “ill-fated” women.
  • They are founders of Whitcomb & Shaftesbury Tailors on London’s Saville Row.
