- On December 7th, 2017, India became a member of the multilateral arms export control group ‘Wassenaar Arrangement’ (WA).
- Process for India’s membership will be completed by the group soon.
- It is notable that the twenty-third WA Plenary meeting, chaired by Ambassador Jean-Louis Falconi of France, was held in Vienna on 6th-7th December 2017.
- Its aim is to control the export of conventional weapons and dual-use items and technology.
- This led to increase in India’s commitment to nuclear non-proliferation.
- With this decision, India’s claim in nuclear supplier group and Australia group became stronger.
