- On January 2, 2018; in the meeting of the Uttar Pradesh cabinet, it was decided to set up Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation as a single special purpose vehicle.
- It will be set up on the lines of Maharashtra Rail Corporation (MH Metro).
- Implementation of Metro Rail Projects / Rail-based Mass Rapid Transit System Projects in different metros of Uttar Pradesh will now be done by this corporation.
- The formation of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation will be reconstituted from the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (a 50:50 joint venture company between the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government).
