  • On 17 February 2016 the French Government has conferred Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour), the highest French civilian distinction on Sunand Sharma.
  • He was awarded in recognition of his outstanding achievements as Country President, India & South Asia and Chairman, Alstom India, from 2006 to 2014.
  • On behalf of the President of the French Republic, Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Mr Francois Richier, conferred the distinction on Mr Sunand Sharma, at a ceremony.
  • Sharma also served as President of the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry for two terms as well as chaired and served on various committees of the CII and FICCI as well as on the CII National Council and FICCI National Executive Committee, during his tenure with Alstom.
  • This award was created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the Legion of Honour is the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for outstanding service, regardless of the nationality of the recipients.
