  • PSLV-C45, launched the Indian Space Research Organization’s satellite EMISAT from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota on April 1, 2019.
  • It also launched 28 other smaller satellites of international customers with textbook precision.
  • PSLV C-45 is the 47th flight of PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle)

EMISAT:

  • EMISAT is a defence satellite. It has lift weight of 436Kg, Altitude of 749 Kms, and with 800w power.
  • EMISAT has been developed under DRDO’s Project Kautilya which aims to boost India’s space surveillance capacity. The main capability of EMISAT is in signal intelligence — intercepting signals broadcast by communication systems, radars, and other electronic systems on the ground from hundreds of kilometers away in space. 

  • The foreign satellites include 24 from the US, two from Lithuania and one each from Spain and Switzerland.

New PSLV:

  • In this mission, the rocket PSLV C45 flew in a new configuration called “QL”.
  • In this configuration, the rocket is fitted with four longer versions of strap-on motors that provide the vehicle the required additional thrust.
