  • On 22 December 2016 Kaisa Matomaki and Maksym Radziwill have been jointly won the 2016 SASTRA-Ramanujan award.
  • Maksym Radziwill is the professor of McGill University, Canada and Kaisa Matomaki is the professor of University of Turku, Finland.
  • They are awarded for their ‘revolutionary’ collaborative work on short intervals in number theory.
  • Kaisa Matomaki is second woman to receive the prize since it was instituted in 2005.
  • The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize, founded by Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) University in Kumbakonam, India, Srinivasa Ramanujan’s hometown, is awarded every year to a young mathematician judged to have done outstanding work in Ramanujan’s fields of interest.
  • The age limit for the prize has been set at 32 (the age at which Ramanujan died), and the current award is $10,000.
