  • During June 6-15, 2018, the 22nd edition of the Tripartite Naval Exercise Malabar between India, Japan and the United States will be conducted on the coast of Guam in the Philippine Sea.
  • In this tripartite exercise, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) will participate with the navies of India and the US.
  • The main objective of this exercise is to develop the common sense of processes for the promotion of interoperability between the navies of the three countries and for marine safety operations.
  • During the Exercise Malabar-2018, the Indian Navy will be represented by INS Shahyadri, Fleet Tanker, INS Shakti, Anti-Submarine Corvette INS Kamorta and Long Range Maritime Petrol Aircrafts P8I.
  • US Navy will be represented by 100,000 tonnes nuclear powered Super Carrier USS Ronald Reagan F / A-18 fighters, nuclear attack submarines and P-8A patrol aircraft.
  • From Japan’s side 27,000 tonnes of helicopter carrier, Soryu Class submarine and Kawasaki P-1 marine aircraft will participate.
  • It is worth mentioning that ‘Exercise Malabar’, which started in 1992, is a joint military exercise of India and US Navy, in which Japan is invited partner.
  • It is known that the 21st edition of Malabar was organized during 10-17 July, 2017 in the Bay of Bengal
